PART I

THE PROLOGUE.

1. The Dedication of Luke's Gospel

Mark 1:1, Luke (1:1-4)

1The beginning of the gospel about Jesus Christ, the Son of God.

(Lk 1)Inasmuch as many have undertaken to compile a narrative of the things which have been accomplished among us, 2 just as they were delivered to us by those who from the beginning were eyewitnesses and ministers of the word, 3 it seemed to me good also, having followed all the things closely for some time past, to write an orderly account for you most excellent Theophilus, 4 that you may know the truth concerning the things of which you have been informed.

2. THE PRE-INCARNATE EXISTENCE OF CHRIST AND HIS DIVINE NATURE AND MISSION

John 1:1-5, 9-13

1-2 First Strophe

In the beginning was the Word;
the Word was in God's presence,
and the Word was God.
He was present with God in the beginning.

3-5 Second Strophe

Through him all things came into being,
and apart from him not a thing came to be.
That which had come to be in him was life,
and this life was the light of men.
The light shines on in the darkness,
for the darkness did not overcome it.

10-12 Third strophe

He was in the world,
and the world was made by him;
yet the world did not recognize him.
To his own he came;
yet his own people did not accept him.
But all those who did accept him
he empowered to become God's children.

(1:12 But to all who have received him—those who believe in his name—he has given the right to become God’s children 1:13 —children not born by human parents or by human desire or a husband’s decision, but by God.)

14 Fourth Strophe
And the word became flesh
and made his dwelling among us.
And we have seen his glory,
the glory of an only Son coming from the Father,
filled with the enduring love.

16

And of his fullness
we have all had a share-
love in the place of love.
Jn1:6-16

6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. 7 He came for testimony, to bear witness to the light, that all might believe through him. 8 He was not the light, but came to bear witness to the light. 9 The true light that enlightens ever man was coming into the world. 10 He was in the world, and the world was made through him, yet the world knew him not. 11 He came into his own home, and his own people received him not. 12 But to all who received him, who believed in his name, he gave the power to become the children of God; 13 who were born, not of the blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.

14 And the word became flesh and dwelt among us, full of grace and truth; we have beheld his glory, glory as of the only Son from the father, (15 John bore witness to him and cried, 'This was he of whom I said, ' He who comes after me ranks before me, for he was before me"") 16 And from his fullness have we all received, grace upon grace.

For the laws was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. No one has ever seen God: the only Son, who is in the bosom of the father, he has made known.

(Lk3:23) Jesus was about thirty years old when he began his work. He was supposedly the son of Joseph, who was the son of Jacob, ...., son of Adam the Son of God.

(Mt17) In sum the number of generations from Abraham to David come to fourteen, those from David to the Babylonian exile number fourteen, and those from the Babylonian exile to the Anointed amount to fourteen also.
